Averett University, Virginia

Averett University is a good and versatile university that has been very popular, especially among Finnish and Swedish students. Virginia’s warm weather and diverse recreational possibilities guarantee you will enjoy your time here. Averett has students from more than 20 countries. The university was founded in 1859.

Averett has strong connections to Finland. A good indication of this is the active Averett Finnish Alumni organization. In Helsinki there is an alumni event held every summer which has people participating all the way from the USA.

Averett is located in the small town of Danville in southern Virginia. Students often find Danville a very idyllic place to enjoy college life with its nice restaurants, warm atmosphere and low cost of living. Danville is fairly close to big cities such as Raleigh, Richmond and Charlotte (all in North Carolina to the south), where you can pursue activities such as shopping or watch professional sports. The NFL’s Panthers and the NBA’s Hornets play in Charlotte, while the NHL’s Hurricanes play in Raleigh.

For international students it is easy to adapt to living at Averett. Students are well taken care of and feel like they belong to the university´s big family right from the first day of studies. “At Averett we are one big family” is often heard from the professors, coaches, staff and students at Averett, which could not be more accurate! We know this personally, since URA’s Anton and Timi both completed their bachelor’s degrees here.

Noteworthy: Averett University gives very generous scholarship opportunities to international students, up to $20,000 a year!
